Invisalign® – Ephrata, PA
Adults and Teens Can Improve Their Smile’s Appearance!
A straight, beautiful smile doesn’t have to mean spending years with a mouth full of metal. For adults and teens in Ephrata, our team offers a cosmetic alternative – Invisalign®. If you’ve put off orthodontic treatment because you don’t want to spend time using uncomfortable, smile ruining metal bracket and wire braces, it’s time to call Ephrata Family Dentistry to schedule an orthodontic consultation. No dental treatment is right for every patient, but for many, a cosmetic alternative to traditional braces is the best course of action. Our team will examine your smile and help you determine whether or not you’re a candidate for Invisalign®.
What are the Benefits of Invisalign®?
By pursuing orthodontics with this treatment, patients do not have to make substantial changes to their habits, such as their oral hygiene or diet. The aligners are easily removeable, making it easy to eat the foods you want or continue your regular brushing and flossing routine.
Additionally, clear aligners from Invisalign® are transparent, allowing them to blend in more effectively with your smile compared to traditional braces. If you’re worried about maintaining your appearance, clear aligners give you the opportunity to straighten teeth without having a metal smile.
Finally, Invisalign® typically takes less time to straighten teeth, averaging between 6 and 18 months. For those with mild to moderate levels of misalignment, it makes far more sense to choose an option with a shorter treatment time.
How Does Invisalign® Work?
Instead of dealing with the hassle of brackets and wires, Invisalign® uses a series of clear, custom-made, plastic aligners to shift teeth. During your consultation, our dentists will examine and collect impression molds of your smile, which will be used to create each stage of your transformation. After collecting, they’ll send the aligners to an Invisalign® lab where your full treatment is created from start to finish. You’ll even get to see how your teeth will shift thanks to Invisalign’s® proprietary software, which visually depicts how your teeth will look after a pair is worn for a set period of time.
During treatment, it is crucial that you wear the aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours per day to achieve timely results. You should only be removing your aligners to eat, brush or take an occasional photo if you’d prefer. Other than that, they should be worn as long as possible in order to avoid hiccups in treatment.
How Do I Care for My Invisalign® Aligners?
Caring for your aligners is relatively simple, as long as you know what tools and products to use. Caring for your aligners should include:
- Rinsing your aligners before you eat or drink beverages other than water
- Allowing your aligners to soak in Invisalign’s® cleaning crystals and lukewarm water twice a day
- Using cool water and a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove loose plaque and debris
- Brushing your teeth after eating richly-pigmentated foods to avoid accidentally transferring stains from your teeth to the aligners
- Never using hot water to soak aligners.
- Never using toothpaste or colored/scented soaps to clean aligners.
Am I a Candidate for Invisalign®?
Those who do not want to use traditional braces and only have mild to moderate issues with their smile are likely candidates for Invisalign®. However, those who currently have allergies to metal hardware should also consider them for treatment. Both teens and adults can reap the benefits Invisalign® has to offer, however treatment times can vary as teenagers tend to have teeth that are more susceptible to shifting.
