Veneers are sometimes referred to as instant orthodontics thanks to their ability to correct minor orthodontic flaws.
Who Should Consider Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin sheaths of dental grade porcelain that resemble egg shells. They attach to the fronts of teeth in order to conceal and correct any number of dental flaws instantly perfecting patients’ smiles. This minimally invasive procedure is ideal for patients with the following cosmetic flaws:
- Chips and cracks – if chips and cracks cover a number of teeth or have weakened a specific tooth beyond the point where composite resin filling material can be used to repair the dental structure, many patients believe their only recourse is a full dental crown. This procedure can include the removal of a great deal of healthy tooth structure to accommodate the crown. Instead, a veneer may offer an ideal solution by protecting and restoring the tooth without removing excessive healthy structure.
- Unevenly spaced or misaligned teeth – veneers are sometimes referred to as instant orthodontics thanks to their ability to correct minor orthodontic flaws. For patients who have slightly misaligned or unevenly spaced teeth, investing the time and money in porcelain veneers may seem like a waste, but veneers are quickly and comfortably placed instantly transforming crooked teeth to flawless smiles.
- Deep set stains – if patients are unable to achieve the whitening results they desire due to fluorosis discoloration, tetracycline stains, or other deep set staining, veneers may offer a solution. The high quality material conceals existing discoloration, and the stain resistant porcelain creates long lasting, brilliantly white smiles.
The Porcelain Veneers Process
To place porcelain veneers, patients should plan to visit our office two times. During the initial visit, we remove a minimal amount of surface tooth enamel. This allows the veneer to lay flat within the patients’ natural smile line. Then, we capture impressions, and place a temporary veneer to protect the treated teeth. Our trusted dental lab crafts a custom veneer based on the impressions, and once we receive these final restorations, the patient returns to exchange the temporary for the permanent restoration. The process is so fast and painless, many patients don’t even need local anesthetic.
